I'm okay with Julia Gama representing us this year because she is not the prettiest, but definitely one of the most well prepared! Júlia Horta who seems to be of European descent (Portuguese, maybe?) was not the prettiest from the 2019 batch in my opinion, but she was maybe the strongest. Julia Horta fits the "Natália Guimarães Prototype", actually both were born in the same town.Ī German-Brazilian (Marthina Brandt, born in the Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil, a state with lots of German immigrants) Ģ Afro-Brazilian girls (Raíssa Santana, born in Bahia, a state with our biggest afro population and raised in Paraná, Southern Brazil, and Monalysa Alcântara, born in Piauí state. I don't think Mayra fits the "Natália Guimarães Prototype", she is an Amazonian girl of Native Brazilian descent (less than 1% of our current population are "pure" Native Brazilians and she's only the second Amazonian girl to win the Miss Brazil title!) I kinda agree with you, but let's take into account that it's a new organization and they had a short amount of time to choose someone, so they decided to play safe!

Marthina, Raissa, and Monalysa were so great and definitely my three favorites from the past few years. Brazil (and honestly most other Latin American countries) have so many different people and looks, but it's so often the same type of girls that get crowned. We had such an exciting trio from 2015 to 2017 but ever since it's been back to same old Miss Brazil.Īgreed, I want some more diversity with the winners. ThatCanadian wrote:Brazil never changes up the prototype. This could be also a disadvantage to Sophie Moulds if she will win Miss Universe Great Britain 2020 because she only applied for this national pageant 8 years after her previous stint at Miss World. The long gap will possibly her disadvantage since the 5 former Miss World contestants who won Miss Universe only have at most 2 year gap after their stint at Miss World, unless she might pull a "Patricia Rodriguez" effect at the 69th Miss Universe.

Miss Universe 2015 2nd Runner Up Olivia Jordan = 2 years after her stint at Miss Worldīut in the case of Julia Gama, she will compete at 69th Miss Universe 6-7 years after her stint at Miss World. Miss Universe 2013 1st Runner Up Patricia Rodriguez = 5 years after her stint at Miss World Miss Universe 2010 1st Runner Up Yendi Philips = 3 years after her stint at Miss World Miss Universe 2009 1st Runner Up Ada Dela Cruz = 2 years after her stint at Miss World Among the 5 former Miss World contestants who later won Miss Universe, 3 of them (Georgina, Angela and Michelle) competed at Miss Universe the following year while the remaining 2 (Mpule and Catriona) competed at Miss Universe after 2 years.Ĥ of the Miss World placers who made it to the Top 3 but fell short of winning Miss Universe since 2008:
